How to choose your web hosting package ?
Choosing a web host can be tricky. You'll have to be aware of the following:
- available resources - as a beginner you shouldn't worry about this but if the things get serious you might be tempted to fall in the "unlimited" resources mouse trap.
- server uptime - it is worthless to spend your time developing a website which can't be accessed by human visitors or search engine bots 24/7.
- server location - it can take some while for a Romanian visitor to access a USA server, so the closest the server is to the visitor, the faster it gets.
- upgrade possibility - it comes a time when a shared hosting account won't be enough for your growing website so any upgrade should be possible without a hustle.
Bluehost, FatCow, Hostgator, HostMonster or 1and1 are all awesome solutions. I'll stick with 1and1 because it is very cheap, reliable and also scalable.
BUT, there are some buts with 1and1: you will need to know some specific configurations in order to get things done. Another thing you should know is that their support sucks so when you have a problem if you can't handle the situation no one can't help you - there is a lot of info on the internet, so far I've managed to solve all my problems.
PS: Avoid free or unlimited web hosting. Nothing in this world isn't free or unlimited, neither high tech services like web hosting.
